A limited edition single malt that tells a story of New Year in Scotland, reflecting the joy of celebrating special occasions with loved ones. Telling the story of Scotland’s world-famous Hogmanay festivities celebrated annually on 31st December, A Night on Earth in Scotland captures the universal joy of celebrating the change of year. This seasonal release is a collaboration with acclaimed Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn, whose artwork has featured in director Wes Anderson’s films. The single malt is presented in unique packaging to provide a special unboxing experience and Dorn’s playful abstract illustrations are inspired by the historic fire rituals dominant in New Year celebrations around the world. Hogmanay, pronounced “hog·muh·nei”, is Scotland’s renowned New Year’s Eve festivities. Erica Dorn’s bespoke designs reveal some of the distinctive customs of Scotland’s Hogmanay, including the act of ‘first footing’ when it is good luck for a dark-haired visitor to be the first person to cross the threshold of your home after the stroke of midnight. According to tradition, the ‘first footer’ will carry three things: shortbread, whisky and coal for the fire. Each gift is designed to bring comfort and happiness to your home for the rest of the year. Shortbread is also a prominent flavour in the whisky. A Night on Earth in Scotland is created from a selection of The Macallan’s exceptional American and European oak sherry seasoned casks, along with American ex-bourbon barrels to deliver its rich, sweet shortbread-like character. A whisky referencing the rich Scottish delicacy traditionally gifted and eaten at Hogmanay, punctuated by festive notes of dried orange and spice. Neit Neigth Nithg Nithe Nigth Night. A Perfect Pairing: Sip neat with shortbread on the side.

Much like the initial release in this series, The Macallan A Night On Earth The Journey isn't very inspired.

I am a massive Macallan fan and a drinker / collector / seller. The Macallan Journey putting the artist collaboration aside for a moment, has led to a beautifully presented box with complex open system. It is not expensive at £105 although limited in release annually. They manage to sell out not THAT long after release as people like to have a Macallan they can crack open and not feel like they're drinking more than the GDP of a small nation. I have had 3 glasses of this in a GC glass prior to writing here and heeeer goes. Nose: Pallate: Finish This whisky is reliable. It is good however, I personally could not drink more than 2-3 glasses without needing something with a stronger taste. the lighter stuff can get sickly after a bit but that is me. It is a great whisky and what makes this 91 is the start of greatness is here and since this is sub £150 makes it all the more a Macallan for most. Not quite the £80 for everyone and their dog but it is reasonable, looks good, smart presentation. Highly recommended to get people into Macallan. Oh wait... the finish... i just got some nutty taste whilst writing this on my 3rd glass.

Unfortunately a bit thin. Apple pie with raisins and vanilla ice cream. A bit of wood too.

Following the first release in the series, this bottling again gives little impression of Macallan having created anything special. Expectations for the brand are high: depth, distinctiveness, and a whisky that explains why Macallan enjoys such a reputation. Instead, this bottling once again feels rather cautious and lacking in daring.

It smells nice. It's not really "macallanish". Not much sherry in it. Rather, the bourbon cask dominates. Citrus fruits, coconut, vanilla, caramel and ginger. A little sherry in the background. Nice, not the usual. A little youthfulness comes out in the taste. Then the flavors come out nicely. Apple pie, vanilla sauce, citrus fruits. Ginger and coconut. The aftertaste is medium, black pepper and dark chocolate, with a hint of woody astringency. (3-4th fill barrels?) Overall not bad. Worth a try. The asking price of 113 EUR is a bit overpriced. This should be priced around 60 EUR in my honest opinion.

A simple, drinkable, light whisky. It's not bad, but the price is ridiculously high.

Mild, floral nose, decent sweetness, vanilla... not too sherried. Thin mouthfeel with no offnotes but also without character. Somehow underwhelming when you are used to cask strengths and complex older malts. Maybe a suitable malt for beginners. Certainly not for over 100€$! Around 40 would be realistic imho.

The last time I had a MacAllan it was the Gold bottling from at least 15 years ago!! This was quite the pleasant surprise to have tasted! This for me is the epitome of my enjoyment currently - easy to enjoy, non demanding whisky that provides enough flavour to engage you Could it be better? Yes Could it be cheaper? Should be! Is it enjoyable as is? Absolutely I have to give credit to MacAllan - despite the chill filtration and lower than desired ABV, the spirit is still very much there and it’s a quality one at that…. A bottle I’d be happy to have in my cabinet to drink, savour and enjoy

Nose: The fragrance opens with a light, floral and fresh aroma, with notes of vanilla, caramelized sugar, candied orange peel and a hint of honey. Taste: The taste is soft and creamy, with hints of candied orange, cinnamon, nutmeg and a subtle touch of coconut flakes. Finish: The finish is medium in length, with a light spiciness and notes of candied pear and soft tannins.

Easy fine enjoyable whisky with round appearance. I could imagine this dram on a mild summer evening not worrying about anything. The whisky is not demanding in any way. In comparison with the previous Night on earth II it is different. Really enjoyable but maybe a little bit higher abv would have closed the gap. For € 110,-- only if you really want to have a stylish macallan otherwise try others.
