Green, floral, wet grass, sherry flavor is not obvious, and there is a slight sense of alcohol. It gets a little better after the cup is awakened. The aroma is good and the bitterness is gone.
[May 2025] Despite knowing that I do not like the modern Macallan for more than a decade now, a friend gave me a small sample of this... ...and no, it did not change my mind. Actually, this has absolutely nothing to do with the profile that made Macallan once famous. This is a completely different malt, and of average quality only (at best). To be honest, why should I invest some of my precvious liver cells to swallow this stuff? Do not get me wrong, if you like this dram this is absolutely fine - simply because "there is no accouting on taste" and everybody should savour what he/she likes. It is just: I drank a lot of the old Macallan before, and this ruined my senses for such a modern style dram - sorry, folks.
It smells noble, intense ex-bourbon barrel, with floral and fruity notes. There is gooseberry, kiwi, no sherry, some vanilla and wonderfully delicate wood. It goes on like this in the mouth, only that he gets strong very quickly - no, really strong! He's got a lot of bang! But he remains mature and elegant, the alcohol doesn't overwhelm you. The taste is a touch spicier, woodier. But overall really good!
Golden color. Oily structure.
Sweet Pear, Elderflower, Almond
Fruity and nutty, although a little simple altogether.
RMB 699/bottle. That's a good price for a Macallan.
Floral, vanilla, caramel and apple with cinnamon. Bourbon is in the foreground, I hardly notice the sherry.
The ex-bourbon influence is in the foreground. Nice to drink, it lacks the complexity for a higher rating. I like the nose best. Water is not recommended as it makes it too spicy on the palate for me. The structure also suffers.
Nice nose, especially the pear/vanilla combination is balanced.
Macallan Classic Cut, SMSW 50.3%. 30ml sample from Mr Dram Man consumed Feb 2024. Dark golden yellow. Aroma is quite muted. Some pleasant simple vanilla and biscuity oak. Malted milk biscuits. Hint of margarine. Very simple. I like American oak but it does need to be first fill or aged a longer time than this is in order to impart its best characteristics. This is clean but too basic. The spirit character is very neutral. Below-average on the aroma. Nice oiliness to the body. Taste is pretty good. Could almost be a mid-aged grain whisky given the neutrality of the spirit and the oak-led flavour. Not complex on the palate either but definitely a bit better in that department than the aroma. Has a nice richness to it. Vanilla and sweet oak extract, vague biscuit and crème brulee notes and the faintest, faintest orange but mostly just delivering that rich vanilla American oak. Faint bitterness on the finish but nothing too distracting. The body is probably the best thing about this. A good solid dram but a similar or better experience can be had while saving some cash. 3.5/84-
Some very nice malt showing in the midpalate and not much sherry at all, so I probably couldn’t ask for a Macallan built more along the lines of what I tend to enjoy. Solid stuff this, with the obligatory disclaimer that it still, in no way justifies the purchase price.
In this Macallan, the bourbon casks clearly predominate. The malt is fruity and fresh with plenty of oak spice. Overall, somewhat unspectacular.
Significantly better than expected for a modern Macallan.
Remarkably sweet and candy, gives a full and warm feeling. Separate reflection of fruit and wood tones, but perhaps missing a slightly 'fresher' component to complete the whole.
It has flavor, but the alcohol content is overwhelming; it's just okay.
Something really special. Everybody will like this :)
I enjoy this expression. It’s like a CS and better version version of the 12 triple casks. Actually I am not too into Macallan bourbon cask stuff but this class cut is quite good to enjoy.
Really good new Macallan 2023. I buy every Macallan Classic Cut because I really like these expressions. The 2021 and 2022 were more like sweet bakery and candy floss but the 2023 bears more fruity aromas like pear and fresh apple. On the tongue there is a strong accession with sweet spicy oak which developes with a short shift to a slightly bitter ginger remanence. It takes some drops of water to emerge additional aromas. It gets better with every sip.
Tasty but not overwhelming
