Springbank Local Barley 10y 2025 NEU 0,7l 55,2 % vol. Whisky Route 1828 136156 60 % Bourbon & 40 % Sherry limitiert auf xx Flaschen Nase : fig rolls, date syrup, plums and star anise kick off this year's Local Barley. Gaumen : A savoury element becomes more pronounced on the palate, with notes of burdock, shiitake mushrooms, tamari soy sauce and liquorice. Abgang: campfire ash and treacle molasses come to the forefront in the finish. All five malts from the region’s three distilleries have been to produce this genuine Campbeltown Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. The whisky was vatted and bottled at Springbank and is made exclusively of whisky from each of Campbeltown‘s 5 whisky brands: Springbank, H azelburn, L ongrow, K ilkerran and Glen S cotia.

Another opportunity, another bottle, which is now warm and sealed, so let's open it! The aroma is interesting, but too much smoke for me. But I didn't understand the taste, so much dry smoke, here, it's too much, and the smoke is not from malt, but from a burnt barrel, a crocodile-like roast?!, hmm, why is it here?((( Ok, overall, everything is not bad, but it's not HOLIDAY, it tasted better cold to me, nothing bothered me, but here, the question is... 22 21 21 22 86

(Short notes during the Springbank online tasting on January 29, 2026) (60% Bourbon, 40% Sherry) Wow, the nose is magnificent, classic Springbank, very mineral, grainy, with hints of oats, bourbon cask aromas clearly predominate, honey, vanilla, fresh hay. A powerhouse on the palate as well, exactly the same aromatic profile, and the same in the finish. Very focused, amazing. 90/90/89 = 90/100

An interesting dram where there are lots of earthy notes - it's good that Springbank seems to try and make whisky to be enjoyed - this is well worth a try, even though it's as rare as rocking horse manure.

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2026/01/13/bwc-2025-springbank/ N: A savoury dessert, so that’ll be something akin to a bread & butter pudding. Add to that, a weighty piece of leather, a sweaty/fusty miso,… the more I look, the more I see. T: Fresh and fruity, this is the most vibrant whisky of the night, complemented by a considered malty funk. F: As is, consistency of flavour and form. C: Excellent, if you can get your hands on it, but don’t sweat it.

Clochkiel Farm Springbank's Local Barley releases can safely be called iconic, which also explains why they sell out in the blink of an eye. In many cases, even before they reach store shelves, but that is another discussion. This bottling, from 2025, is a vatting of 60% bourbon and 40% sherry casks. Eight thousand bottles were bottled at cask strength. The barley this time is Bere Barley from Clochkiel Farm on the Kintyre Peninsula. The nose starts off surprisingly peaty, to be honest. Alongside soft notes of citrus, peach, and nectarine, I also get hints of oyster juice and jute sacks on an earthen floor. It is very, very tasty on the nose. Immediately complex. Beautifully oily. Immediately also pleasantly spicy on white pepper and liquorice, ginger and a good dose of fleur de sel. Somewhat farmy and deliciously fruity on peach and orange jam. Mid-palate it becomes quite waxy and mouth-filling, a fresh note of lime juice appears, and the smoke suddenly becomes bigger than the nose suggested. Grand is the word I am looking for. Delicious malt. The finish is long, smoky, and gently drying on chalk, vanilla, and dried peach. Phenomenal. You can actually buy this blind... if you get the chance. Thanks, Manny!

Wax, hay, and melted butter spread on young, freshly stripped wood; smoke mingling with vanilla and citrus; iodine playing among the reeds; then salt or icing sugar? A bit of both, certainly; a zest of mandarin, raw grains and a few lychees, grapes, diced mango, clods of earth, almonds. Rising bread dough, grapefruit. On the palate, it's smooth, rather citrusy, but fruity, with juicy white and yellow fruits, pears, kumquat, bananas, grapes, and a peppery touch, a pinch of peat and grain, mushrooms. A rather intense finish, very slightly acidic, lemon tart, blond tobacco, dried herbs, mustard, slightly bitter wood. It seemed to me that this one was particularly good, undoubtedly thanks to the variety of barley; the woodiness is rustic and intense, the citrus notes are really pulpy, and the cereal notes are very rich. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2026/05/springbank-2015-local-barley-10-yo.html

If this is the standard quality of the Local Barley series, I understand why everyone wants it. There's a catch, of course... the exorbitant prices in the Netherlands and on the secondhand market are simply absurd. At the distillery itself, these bottles cost £90, which is on the high side for a 10-year-old whisky. But keep in mind, this 10-year-old whisky is 55.2% ABV and is produced from local barley. I would definitely buy a bottle if it stayed under €125.
glen efze9108 jun 2026 11:47 am
Even more difficult to obtain than the 12-year-old CS is a bottling of Springbank Local Barley, produced from barley grown around Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula. The 2025 batch, distilled in 2015, used a special barley: Bere Barley. This old, challenging, and low-yielding variety had almost disappeared before being rediscovered and first cultivated in Orkney. Very little whisky is made from Bere Barley. Bruichladdich releases a regular bottling. After some attempts to grow this barley on Islay, they are once again using Orkney Bere Barley. Arran has had two bottlings. And now Springbank also offers a bottling made with Bere Barley from Clochkiel Farm on the Kintyre Peninsula, matured in 60% bourbon and 40% sherry casks. glen-efze.de

S 8 One of the best Local Barley I've had in recent years. Excellant balance with complexity only achievable with vatting of different cask types. Sad there's not enough allocation for Canada for me to get my hands on a full bottle.

Strong nuances of 90~00s Springbank, nutty notes, coffee beans, smooth and warm texture, fruity acidity intensifies as aeration progresses, balanced peat and smoke, high level of finish.

Blind sample May 2026, selected and poured by my wife into a coloured glencairn. Aroma is burnt moss, charred card, slight funk to it – an oiled but rusty leather-handled tool of some sort, burnt toffee, slight pineapple, coffee mate powder. Not smoky but very ‘charred’ or ashy. Going to guess a peated Ben Nevis based on aroma alone. Body is oily. Taste is intense, very peaty – okay, so now I feel like we’re in Islay whereas just from the aroma we were firmly in the western Highlands. Salty burnt seaweed up-front, soft medicinal sweetness moving into clove. Still not really smoky as such – it’s a resinous, salty sort of peat with medicinal notes. Not loads going on – salt and clove are dominant. The medicinal vibes make me think it’s likely to be one of my old Laphroaig samples, perhaps around the 46% to 48% mark. Very tasty. The taste doesn’t match the complexity of the aroma but it’s a solid dram. 3.6/86 REVEAL Springbank 10 Year Old Local Barley 55.2%. Wow – 55.2%? Didn’t strike me as being that strong at all. Not a typical Springbank character – it strikes me as heavily peated and the aroma is more ‘mechanical / industrial’ than the ‘cheesy’ kind of funkiness I associate with Springbank.

The ultimate highlight of our Springbank tasting. Highly complex with fruity, sweet, and grainy notes and a subtly elegant peat smoke. The fact that it's produced entirely at the Springbank distillery using locally sourced bere barley is unique, and the result is superb. The prices being asked are exorbitant, and not exactly polite. Even at auctions, bottles are currently fetching over €250. I'm not interested in paying that much.

More extensive review online on 3 December 2025 on my website: www.longpouramour.com My conclusion: "After a rather modest and maybe even underperforming 8 years old, this new Springbank 10 years old Local Barley 2025 performs on the usual high level we have come to expect from this popular series. It breaks my heart to see so many retailers rip off their customers with inflated prices, but against this quality, at least you won’t be disappointed with the quality of the whisky in your glass. This is a classic Campbeltown malt right here."

Overwhelmingly strong and briny abalone viscera and camphor notes dominate the palate. Its character is utterly singular—if this profile resonates with you, nothing else will suffice. It's not quite my cup of tea at all.

immediately far peatier, acidic and less cakey/buttery than the Springbank 12 CS (2025). The base is of bitter ash, sooty cold stone minerality, drying oak, grist and fish oils which is elevated a little by apple cider vinegar and a touch a tart passion fruit juice. Water adds medicinal elements such as plasters and the grist becomes dry pasta. The palette is really oily and peaty, green, ashy and acidic clay. It’s very old school in style and reminds me of the first peated Dornoch (cask #149). Water makes it far more buttery and sweet. The finish is drying, ashy and sooty but made sweeter with water. The development of the dram is irregular, very old school and austere without water but becomes more inviting, familiar and less challenging for better or worse. It’s more interesting than the 12 CS but less approachable or drinkable neat.
